The deceased's family says they have no reasons to believe the police.
CHANDIGARH: While the UT cops are claiming that they are making 'all-out efforts' to bring the man behind the wheel of car which knocked down Sector 45 resident Samir Seth on Saturday night to book, the deceased's family says they have no reasons to believe the police. Even as police have written to registration and licensing authorities and car dealers of the tricity to provide them details of red Honda City cars, their 'chilling insensitiveness to the bereaved family' has left deceased's relatives bitter and suspicious of police conduct.
"No police officer has asked us about the details of the accident that we have gathered. Nor do they have tried to contact the eyewitness, Rahul," said Samir's cousin Dimple Vohra. The police, she alleged, made her brother an unidentified accident victim, even as they could have ascertained his identity with the help of his mobile phone and other documents. IG SK Jain told TOI that he has asked South Division, DSP, KIP Singh to 'personally' carry out the probe. KIP Singh said he was hopeful to make a breakthrough in the case in a day or two. "We will be scanning all details and definitely trace the accused," he said.
The statement of Rahul is most crucial for police, but they have not been able to reach him. Dimple, who works in Delhi and is worried that Samir's aged parents might not be able to pursue the matter against the 'influential' accused, told TOI that she went looking for Rahul on Tuesday evening but he had left for home by then. Rahul had said the police after arriving at the spot had let the man driving the vehicle go. He said the police officials had noted down his scooter number. Rahul, later, shared the details with Samir's family and neighbours and taken them to the accident spot.
